[Prev|Next|Home] 24 Hours of Democracy [24 Hours Home] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Andrea Gargas The internet is a GLOBAL community - and indecency varies greatly from culture to culture. In Copenhagen, Denmark the children's reading room at the main library does include a book section on sex - right next to the section on human anatomy. Whose standards of indecency should apply? Realistically, can enough censors/translators be employed to determine whether posts such as the following verse by B. S. Ingemann contain any of the FCC's seven dirty words? Nu titte til hinanden de favre blomster smaa, de muntre fulge kalde paa hverandre, nu alle jordens bo/rn deres o/jne opslaa, nu sneglen med hus paa ryg vil vandre. It is simply not possible to apply any fair and just standard of 'decency' to the international internet community. -Andrea Gargas --------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Prev] [Next] [Home] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- [This is a Blue Ribbon] [Utne Lens] This page was last updated on Thu, Feb 22, 1996 at 2:05:07.
